Podiatry is the study, diagnosis and treatment of the foot and lower extremity. The level and scope of podiatry practice vary from country to country. Cécile Renard is a well-known podiatrist in Windhoek. Her work includes the treatment and/or removal of corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, and abnormal walking patterns. “Abnormal walking patterns can be treated with orthotics made by the podiatrist,” she says. Her average day begins with the sterilisation of instruments, receiving patients for treatment or clinical examination, and the design and creation of orthotics. Renard qualified as a podiatrist after four years of study.
