Mayor highlights KAITE’s economic value to KeetmanshoopKeetmanshoop mayor Emrico Blaauw has highlighted the economic benefits of the Keetmanshoop Agricultural, Industrial and Tourism Expo (KAITE), saying the annual event creates opportunities for local businesses, entrepreneurs and farmers.Speaking at the official opening of the expo’s 70th edition, Blaauw said KAITE had contributed to the town’s development over seven decades and remained an important platform for business and community engagement.“It is an important economic activity that brings life, movement and opportunity to our town, and its economic value must be nurtured and protected," Blaauw said.He said the expo has provided a platform for agriculture, industry, entrepreneurship, innovation and business development for seven decades and brought people together, created opportunities and contributed to the identity and development of the town.“Seventy years is not merely a number. It represents a legacy of dedication, resilience, growth and community spirit,” he said.Blaauw said the expo was expected to boost economic activity as exhibitors showcased their products and services, businesses engaged with potential customers, entrepreneurs promoted their ideas and farmers exchanged knowledge. The event also attracts visitors from across Namibia and beyond. Blaauw emphasised that growing KAITE, attracting more exhibitors and investors, and increasing its economic benefits were shared responsibilities for residents across the ǁKharas region. He said the 70th anniversary also provides an opportunity to consider the expo’s future, including how to attract more investment and create greater opportunities for local entrepreneurs and small businesses. “How do we make this expo even more attractive to investors? How do we create greater opportunities for local entrepreneurs and small businesses? How do we ensure that our farmers, manufacturers, young innovators and emerging enterprises receive meaningful exposure?”Blaauw urged the business community to use KAITE not only to sell products but also to establish lasting business relationships. He encouraged farmers and industrial businesses to exchange knowledge and embrace innovation, while calling on young people to visit exhibition stands, engage with exhibitors and explore opportunities in agriculture, industry, technology and entrepreneurship.“Above all, the benefits of this expo must reach our local community, especially our young people, small businesses and those who are working hard to build a better future for themselves and their families,” the mayor said.“Participate fully and responsibly. Support local businesses, explore the exhibition stands, engage with one another and take advantage of the opportunities presented throughout this week.”
