A new children’s library has opened in Windhoek with the launch of the Temba Kids Library. Founder Hilma Weber hopes to make books and age-appropriate learning materials more accessible to children. The idea grew from her own childhood experiences in northern Namibia and from her work with kindergartens and early childhood development (ECD) centres in Windhoek’s informal settlements. Her first book, My Children’s Picture Atlas of Namibia, was published with support from Development Workshop Namibia and thousands of copies were distributed to ECD centres across the country. Weber founded Temba Kids Hub in November 2025 and develops Namibian- and African-inspired picture books, learning materials and reading programmes. The library is based at the Mekenificent Wellness Centre and is expected to receive more than 3 000 children’s books in November.
