Shorts: Drunk driver arrested in hit-and-run incident
An alleged drunk male driver has been arrested following a hit-and-run accident in Mpanda Street, Otjomuise, during the early hours of Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at around 01h00 when the driver of a red Toyota Etios, registered in Windhoek, allegedly struck a 51-year-old male pedestrian and fled the scene. According to reports, the driver parked the vehicle in a nearby yard shortly after the accident.
Alert witnesses guided police officers to the location where the driver was hiding. He was subsequently returned to the scene and subjected to an alcohol test, which indicated a blood alcohol level of 0.78mg/l — well above the legal limit.
The injured pedestrian sustained head and chest injuries and was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
