Hauuanga, Namalemo get bail

Former Namibia University of Science and Technology Lance senior employee Lance Hauuanga and Windhoek fire brigade employee Steven Namalemo were granted bail of N$10 000 each on Friday after they were arrested last week for allegedly impersonating anti-corruption agents.The pair were arrested after they allegedly impersonated Anti-Corruption Commission agents in order to extort N$3 million from a local businessman. Lawyers Kadhila Amoomo and Trevor Brockerhoff represented them and the matter was postponed to 1 December for further investigations.Namibian Sun reported on Friday that the two men allegedly approached Ralph Muyamba, the former technical adviser of mines minister Tom Alweendo, who was recently reported to ACC, and allegedly offered to destroy a case docket in exchange for a N$3 million bribe. They also promised to cancel a supposed warrant of arrest issued in his name.Muyamba allegedly notified the ACC that their agents were extorting money from him, after which a sting operation was put into motion to catch the two men. On Friday, the City of Windhoek distanced itself from Namalemo’s alleged role in the matter. – STAFF REPORTER
