Meals like your ‘Crazy Mama’ makes
After marrying, Hayley Fortuin who hails from Walvis Bay, relocated to South Africa where she worked various jobs before joining the South African Weather Bureau.
While stationed there, a restaurant located in a complex, caught her eye.
“We like to entertain and often had Namibians visiting South Africa over. So, it came as no surprise that we took over City Space Style Foods. Sadly, after a year, the complex was sold,” Haily narrates. Since Haily started cooking at the age of 12 under the mentorship of her mom, this seemed like a natural step for her.
While on holiday in Namibia in 2012 and enjoying a meal at a local hotel, Hayley noticed Crazy Mama’s situated at 133 Sam Nujoma Ave. in Walvis Bay.
“After I resigned from my job at the weather bureau in 2013, I returned to Namibia and met with the previous owner of the establishment. I partnered with my sister, Carmen Forbes, and we acquired the business.”
Eventually, she became the sole owner of the business in September 2015. In doing so she set out to combine the established Crazy Mama’s name and identity with her unique taste and quality food.
“We created the perfect ambiance coupled with excellent service by treating all our clients equally and as VIPs. This is complemented by our tasty seafood platters, a huge variety of tasty pizzas, and meaty dishes. In addition, we enjoy the support of the community.”
The business which consists of a beer garden, a sports bar, and a restaurant is constantly improving in terms of its offerings and employs 14 persons and several casuals over weekends.
“The passion and dedication of our staff ensured that we won the Restaurant Challenge which was conducted over 21 days in 2016. The Covid-19 pandemic taught us to be innovative and also presented an opportunity to us to give back to the community.”
The venue which can accommodate 200 persons at any given time, is also available for staging events such as birthdays, baby showers, farewells as well as for entertainment purposes such as shows.
“Our restaurant has a warm rustic atmosphere with a comfortable and spacious seating arrangement which leaves our guests to enjoy their food in the company of family and friends. Whether you are looking to have lunch, just dining out, or enjoy a few drinks with friends, you will find that Crazy Mama’s ticks all the boxes. We even sometimes have a DJ playing music.”
Trading hours are on Sundays from 15:00 to 22:30, Tuesdays to Thursdays from 14:00 to 22:30 and on Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00 to 22:30.
