What began as an intimate lifestyle experience tucked within the tranquil grounds of Am Ludgerus Boutique Estate has grown into one of Rundu’s most anticipated social affairs.

'A Weekend in the East', a curated fusion of culture, music and hospitality, is fast becoming a hallmark on the town’s entertainment calendar.

The brainchild of Ludgerus Amushila, owner of the luxury estate, the event celebrates the region’s vibrant cultural fabric while introducing contemporary experiences usually reserved for Namibia’s major cities.

"'A Weekend in the East’ is more than just an event, it’s a movement,” Amushila shared in an interview with tjil recently. “It brings together music, art, food and community in a vibrant, electric setting. It’s a celebration of heritage and modernity that fosters a real sense of belonging.”

The idea was conceived from a desire to merge the boutique hospitality offered by Am Ludgerus with the cultural richness of Rundu. Recognising a gap in premium lifestyle events in the north-eastern town, Amushila envisioned an event that would not only entertain but also elevate Rundu’s profile on Namibia’s cultural map.

Past editions have featured prominent Namibian personalities like Dilish Mathews, Maria Nepembe, Sharon Tjimbundu and King Tee Dee, drawing crowds from across the country. “Having continental guests such as South African rapper Nadia Nakai join the festivities has been a major milestone,” he said. “It affirms the event’s cultural relevance and ability to attract interest beyond our borders.”

Star power

This month’s edition, slated for Saturday, 31 May, promises to be no different. South African media darling Pearl Thusi is set to host, while award-winning Namibian rapper Lioness will deliver a live performance as part of her If Not In This Life tour. “It’s going to be an exhilarating night,” Amushila said. “This line-up brings star power and artistry that will create an unforgettable experience. It’s about building connections between artists, guests and the region’s own cultural pulse.”

Looking ahead, Amushila hopes 'A Weekend in the East' will continue to evolve as both a cultural platform and tourism driver. “We want to redefine what it means to party in Rundu,” he said. “Our long-term vision is to position the town as a holiday destination that celebrates its hospitality, scenic beauty and sense of community.”
