This year, the Grootfontein show is hosting the Namibian Saddlebred Horse Championships, while the small livestock show section has made a strong comeback with 14 farmers entering 160 animals. Six cattle breeds are also on show, and the dog show provided a major highlight on the first day.
The show was officially opened last night by the town's mayor, Thalita Garises, with show president Nita Pretorius handling the welcoming remarks.
The Dexters, Limousins, and Brahmans are on show today, with the interbreed championship and the show parade scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, 15 September.
Tonight at 19:00, a safety talk will be presented by the town's neighbourhood watch, followed by a performance by George Jesaya from Tsumeb, while local singers Joharetha and Len Nel will entertain showgoers on Friday night.
A show parade will also take place in the town on Friday at 16:00.
The national horse show championships will be held on Friday, starting at 15:15. The show continues until Friday night, 15 September.
