MTC, Huawei trial 5G offering

Mobile operator MTC and Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei this week tested their 5G offering, saying not only will it result in faster and more affordable connectivity, but it will change the way Namibians communicate.

According to Huawei country manager for Namibia, Michael Zhang, 5G “will fundamentally change the way we live, work and communicate. It will enable a wide range of applications that will drive economic growth, enhance productivity and improve the quality of life for the people of Namibia”.

Information minister Emma Theofelus said: “This trial is ground-breaking and historic. It symbolises Namibia's commitment to putting technology at the centre of driving the national development agenda”.

She further noted that Namibia is pursuing industrialisation by 2030, and “as technology keeps evolving, we can only achieve that vision if we keep up with the latest technology that can aid and is favourable towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.
