#JustIn: Fixed internet subscriptions surge
The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (Cran) says a remarkable increase in fixed internet subscriptions during the fourth quarter of 2022 was observed.
The growth rate rose from 22% during the fourth quarter of 2021 to 89% during the same period of 2022.
"This indicates a growing preference for high-speed internet services, which may stem from increasing confidence in digital technology for work and leisure activities," says Cran's CEO, Emilia Nghikembua.
The use of mobile data increased by 8% during the fourth quarter of 2022.
Nghikembua also noted that total investments in the telecommunications sector during the last months of 2022 declined. According to Nghikembua, this will have a negative impact on the sector in the long run.
