Netball Namibia receives welcome boost

MTC's N$2.5 million commitment over the next three years marks a 31% increase in funding for the netball league.
Last week, MTC announced the renewal of its sponsorship support to the Namibia Netball Premier League (NNPL), committing a total of N$2.5million for the next three years.
This represents a 31% increase from what the league received last year.
At the announcement, MTC’s chief human capital, corporate affairs and marketing officer Tim Ekandjo said following a thorough review of the league's performance, the company has resolved to enter into another three-year sponsorship agreement with a vision to see it become professional.
“Every three years, we review how each MTC-sponsored beneficiary performed in line with the agreed deliverables and expectations. The decision to renew or not to renew is thus based on, firstly, the review’s outcome; and secondly, on the available allocated funds," he said.
“Our vision is to see netball professionalised in the next three years, and with the plans the leadership of NNPL has in place, we are very optimistic in realising that vision. We are therefore pleased to be renewing our sponsorship agreement with netball and we believe with good leadership structure and the management currently at the helm, the MTC Namibia Netball Premier League is set to continue reaching greater heights.”
More attractive than before
Accepting the sponsorship, Netball Namibia president Rebekka /Goagoses welcomed the support, highlighting the impact it has on the league.
“Over the years, MTC’s support has been very instrumental in successfully running and improving the league. As we aim to grow the league, last year we have requested for an increase of 31% in the sponsorship money, and that is exactly what we received. This will enable us to continue improving performance, prize money and overall quality of the league – making the MTC Namibia Netball Premier League more attractive than before.”
/Goagoses added that the increased sponsorship will enable them to develop netball in the regions and ultimately have a bigger pool for talent scouting.
The league is schedule for tentative start in March, with 12 teams ready to take winner status from the 2023 champions Namibia Correctional Service (NCS).
Newly promoted Unam Jaguars, Unam Ogongo, Tsumeb Netball Club (NC) and Eastern Chiefs NC will battle it out this year with Afrocat Lions NC, Tigers NC, NCS NC, Wanderers NC, Otjozondjupa Nampol NC, Mighty Gunners NC, Namibia Navy NC and Young Stars NC.
