Old Mutual Foundation backs Street Sports Namibia with N$900 000 sponsorship

The Old Mutual Namibia Foundation has committed N$900 000 towards the Street Sports Namibia Initiative, a community-based programme that aims to empower young people through football, netball and entrepreneurship.The six-month sponsorship, announced on Monday, will see the Foundation become the title sponsor of the initiative, which is organised by Unmatched Potential and will be rolled out in Swakopmund, Windhoek and Ondangwa.The programme is designed to create sustainable opportunities for young Namibians while encouraging community participation through weekly sporting activities.In addition to title sponsorship, the investment includes the provision of sports infrastructure, equipment and playing bibs for participating teams.The league will focus on football and netball, providing regular competition for players while creating a platform for spectators and local communities to engage in organised sport.Old Mutual Namibia Group Marketing, Public Affairs and Sustainability Executive Mignon du Preez said the partnership aligns with the Foundation's commitment to supporting social and economic development across the country."The Old Mutual Foundation aims to deliver a wide range of social initiatives throughout Namibia, aligning with our purpose to support national and local developmental priorities in the communities in which we operate," she said.Unmatched Potential founder and chief executive Etienne Raymond welcomed the collaboration, saying it would help unlock opportunities for young people through both sport and entrepreneurship."The objective of this collaboration is to establish and build a meaningful partnership that delivers mutually beneficial outcomes. We are thrilled to partner with an organisation that shares our vision for youth development, community impact, and unlocking potential through sports and entrepreneurship," Raymond said.The agreement also gives the Old Mutual Foundation the first right of refusal to extend its sponsorship beyond the initial six months, as well as the opportunity to sponsor the national finals, which are planned for Swakopmund after the league concludes.The Street Sports Namibia Initiative will launch in Swakopmund on 9 August before expanding to Ondangwa and concluding its rollout in Windhoek on 16 August.
