Namibia bags three medals at All-Africa champs
Team Namibia returned with three medals from the World Fitness Federation (WFF) All-Africa Bodybuilding Championship recently held in Accra, Ghana.
WFF Namibia president Gylgrister Evaristor received two honorary gold medals at the continental championship last weekend, while Trust Sesoho claimed silver in the Bermuda Junior category.
The team’s participation came despite travel difficulties, with visa and flight complications forcing them to postpone their departure from 29 to 30 September.
Despite the setbacks, the team went on to compete against athletes from more than 30 African countries for WFF international classifications, global pro-am credentials and opportunities to qualify for world-level events.
Beyond competition
Evaristor said the experience extended beyond the competition, with the team travelling back to Namibia wearing their medals and waving the Namibian flag.
“For those few hours, we felt like celebrities,” Evaristor said, adding that the warm reception from members of the public made the return journey a memorable one.
The team also praised Ghana for its hospitality and the organisation of the championship, which prompted interest in bringing the continental event to Namibia.
According to Evaristor, WFF Namibia is “seriously considering” hosting the All-Africa Bodybuilding Championship in Namibia in 2027.
He said hosting the continental event would give Namibia an opportunity to showcase African bodybuilding on home soil, while promoting the sport and creating greater exposure for local athletes.
The team also expressed gratitude to the Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) for its continued support, which Evaristor described as instrumental in making their participation possible.
