President underscores urgency of water security

Water cooperation took centre stage as President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah met a high-level Global Water Partnership delegation on the margins of the 39th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.

The delegation praised Namibia’s commitment to advancing the global water agenda and noted the strategic importance of establishing a global hub for water governance on the African continent.

The president welcomed the partnership, reaffirming Namibia’s readiness to support the secretariat and contribute to sustainable water management. She stressed that water scarcity remains a major challenge across Africa and that strengthened cooperation can unlock solutions for both the continent and the world.

The meeting took place alongside the high-level breakfast of the Africa Water Investment Programme at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa headquarters.
