Namibia calls for stronger Africa-Japan partnerships
SHORT
Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has urged Africa and Japan to deepen cooperation in trade, technology, and youth empowerment to secure inclusive economic growth across the continent.
Speaking at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama yesterday, Ngurare delivered the message on behalf of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
Ngurare highlighted Namibia’s development agenda under the National Development Plan Six (NDP6), calling for bold partnerships aligned with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He warned that failure to integrate the informal sector into mainstream economies would result in “half-cooked meals”, arguing that SMEs, especially those led by women and youth, must be central to Africa’s growth strategy.
The premier painted a vision of “an Africa where guns are silenced, hunger is history, and industrialisation drives prosperity”, stressing the need to harness Africa’s youth through innovation and joint ventures with Japan.
