Man arrested for Walvis pensioner murder

A 44-year-old Walvis Bay man has been arrested in connection with the murder of 80-year-old Walvis Bay resident Barbara Ruth Geschke.

Geschke's body was discovered at her home by a neighbour on 16 June. Police arrested Daniel Makie in Kuisebmond on 24 June and have positively linked him to the murder. Several items believed to have been stolen from the victim were also recovered.

Makie made his first appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate's Court on Friday, where he was denied bail. The matter was postponed to 29 October 2026 for further police investigations.

Investigations are continuing.
