Residents around the Eneas Peter Nanyemba Road and Havana Four-Way face ongoing health risks as stormwater and sewage sweep through their homes. A bridge constructed between 2023 and 2024 has become a dumping channel for rubbish, worsening the problem during rains. Havana representative David Mathews told Network Media Hub (NMH) today that “every time it rains, all the rubbish collected from other nearby locations is dumped here and most of the people’s properties have been damaged.” Dysfunctional sewer systems, he added, contribute further, with newspapers, cardboard, and even pieces of mattresses flowing into homes. Mathews criticised local councillors for being detached and called on municipal and national authorities to intervene to protect residents’ health.
