Frmer DTA MP Mwilima dies
Geoffrey Mwilima, a former DTA member of parliament and Caprivi high treason convict, has died this morning at the age of 70. He was receiving treatment in Lady Pohamba Private Hospital in Windhoek. His death comes just over a month after he was released from prison on 24 December on remission. Remission refers to the reduction or cancellation of the remainder of a prison sentence, typically after a convicted person has served a portion of the term. Mwilima, who had reportedly been battling diabetes while incarcerated, had been in custody since August 1999 following his arrest in the aftermath of surprise attacks by armed separatists on government-linked targets in Katima Mulilo, then part of the Caprivi region. He was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment, with the sentence formally commencing in December 2015.
