Farmers attend rice production information day
The agriculture ministry, in collaboration with the Oshikoto Regional Council and local rice farmers, hosted a Farmers’ Information Day on rice production in Oniiwe A village in the Oshikoto region on Monday.
The event aimed to provide guidance to farmers interested in rice cultivation in the region, covering cultivation techniques, market access and harvesting procedures.
About 60 farmers attended the event, indicating strong interest in rice farming.
Oshikoto governor Sacky Kathindi emphasised that agriculture is a vital component that sustains nations, fosters economic growth, and restores dignity within communities.
“A nation that cannot feed itself can never truly claim economic independence," he said.
He added that for too long, reliance on imported food has persisted despite the presence of fertile land and capable elements he said must be leveraged to bring about necessary change.
