Elderly couple suffer violent attack
An elderly couple in their late 70s to early 80s were brutally attacked during a house robbery at Rossmund Estate, at the Rossmund Golf Club outside Swakopmund, in the early hours of this Wednesday.
The incident reportedly occurred between 03:00 and 04:00. It is alleged that three suspects entered the house through a bathroom window while the couple were asleep.
According to information from emergency and security personnel who attended the scene, the elderly woman woke up to use the bathroom and was confronted by one of the intruders. The suspects allegedly assaulted both victims, tying them up while ransacking the house.
The woman pleaded with the attackers not to hurt them, but one of the suspects allegedly told her to “shut up” while continuing the attack. The man at one stage played dead in an attempt to stop the assault.
Items stolen include cellphones, laptops and jewellery described as having strong sentimental value.
The couple were only able to call for help after freeing themselves. They were taken to hospital for treatment. The elderly man sustained injuries, including suspected broken ribs, but both victims are reported to be in a stable condition and not in life-threatening danger.
No arrests had been made at the time of publication.
