Affirmative Action hearings start Wednesday

The Employment Equity Commission has summoned a number of public and private sector employers to appear before its review panel this week over deficiencies in their affirmative action reports. The hearings will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, 21 and 22 January, at the National Council in Windhoek, from 09:00 to 13:00 daily. Employers scheduled to appear on Wednesday include Namibia Rotomould, Moncha Trading, also known as Wydveld Quality Produce, Kongsberg Maritime, Walvis Bay Primary School, Antonius Residenz Trust, Bidvest Steiner Namibia, the Road Fund Administration and Beefcor Meat Suppliers.
Those appearing on Thursday are SASSCAL, the Namibia Training Authority, Letshego Bank, the Namibia Oncology Centre, Independent Security Services, Amitofo Care Centre of Namibia and Swanib Cables. Employment Equity commissioner Otniel Podewiltz said the review panel plays a critical role in holding employers accountable, adding that the commission has begun formulating criminal charges under the Affirmative Action Act.
