Shaningwa tells Shinduvi to hold her horses

Swapo secretary-general Sophia Shaningwa has interdicted the party’s Kavango East regional coordinator Otillie Shinduvi to stop a process of investigating allegations made against her in a petition.A meeting was scheduled to take place in Rundu on Thursday where a so-called independent committee was expected to look into claims made by disgruntled Swapo members in Kavango East, who are calling on Shinduvi to be suspended.However, it appears Shaningwa was tipped off ahead of the scheduled meeting, with the secretary-general penning a letter - dated 1 June - informing Shinduvi to stop with any attempts to deal with the petition.In her letter, Shaningwa said a team will soon be constituted to look into the allegations.“The office of the secretary-general has received a petition pertaining to the Swapo Party regional coordinator of Kavango East Region.“In view of the above, the petition is receiving the attention of the office and a task team will be constituted to investigate.“Due to the fact that the regional coordinator is implicated, the regional office should not be seized with the matter or with any investigations regarding the matter until the task team is dispatched. The office of the regional coordinator will be informed in due course.”However, despite Shaningwa’s order, Shinduvi and fellow regional executive members held a meeting to discuss the petition recently.Division instead of unityDisgruntled protestors demanded swift action against Shinduvi and Kavango East regional governor Bonifaius Wakudumo, who they accused of tribalism, nepotism, abusing party funds and tarnishing the image and reputation of the party, among many other allegations.They are further accused of widening the division amongst comrades in the region as opposed to bringing unity.“We will not allow any violation of the provisions or laws enshrined in our party’s constitution by any person, whether by a member of Swapo Party or not,” the petition read.“We have lost trust and confidence in the current regional coordinator and the illegitimate regional mobiliser because these two comrades are continuously causing the Swapo Party in Kavango East and Namibia as whole irreparable harm and great reputational damage.“We believe that Shinduvi and Wakudumo are self-serving and their continued presence in the offices of the Swapo Party will continue to inflict great suffering and pain on Swapo and its bona fide members in Kavango East.”kenya@namibiansun.com
