NA rules to be debated

News in short
ELIZABETH JOSEPH
The Landless People's Movement's (LPM) deputy leader Henny Seibeb yesterday said National Assembly (NA) speaker, Peter Katjavivi, has threatened to "arrest" elected MPs and place them in custody and holding cells if they break NA rules. Speaking during a press briefing, Seibeb said he believes that if found guilty, MPs might meet the fate of the late Lazarus Kandara, and he fears the worst. Last year, LPM leader Bernadus Swartbooi and his deputy, Seibeb, were dismissed from the assembly by Katjavivi after a myriad of disruptions during the president's state of the nation address. They later won the case when Judge Dave Smuts ruled the dismissal was "unlawful". Seibeb said they will debate the assembly rules in the weeks to come.
