#JustIn: LPM boots ‘founding member’ Thomas

The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) has expelled Paul Thomas, a former administrative assistant to its members of parliament, who dragged the party to the labour court for unfair dismissal and the arbitrary suspension of his salary.

In a statement issued today, the LPM’s operative secretary, Dawid Eigub, pointed out that the party’s founding national executive has consented to terminate Thomas’ party membership. The party says it has found Thomas’ conduct to be “diametrically opposed with the core values and principles” it stands for.

Thomas, who claims that he is a founding member of LPM, said this is a purge by the party’s top leaders, Bernadus Swartbooi and Henny Seibeb, to ensure they face no opposition at the People’s Assembly slated for 2024.

“I can even challenge this, but I don’t want to be associated with this dying horse. I am not going to waste my time; they just made the work easier for me, because I was going to resign after my labour case is concluded,” he said.

“It is unfortunate that such a noble idea was messed up and people had so much hope for this party to speak for them on matters such as the land issue, the genocide issue. But these dreams have now disappeared, because these two are just out there to enrich themselves. There is no difference between Swapo and LPM,” said Thomas.
