Baby dies at day care centre
A three-months-old baby, Judith Nettesia Popyeni, was found dead in a bed at a Swakopmund daycare centre on Monday.
Police unit commander for community service in the Erongo Region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the incident and explained that according to the caregiver at Twingle Day Care, the child was dropped off by the mother at 07:00. "She was allegedly fine and during midday, the caregiver fed her and laid her down on a mattress and covered her with a blanket. The mother of the baby returned from work at about 18:00 to collect her baby. When she picked her up, she realised that the child was not moving," Shapumba reported.
Paramedics from Swakopmund State Hospital as well as the police were called to the scene. The body of the baby was transported to Swakopmund State Hospital for death certification by a doctor.
