Union leader collapses and dies on the job

TRAGEDY: Filemon Mwashindange collapsed and died while on duty at Andrada’s Uis tin mine on Monday. He was the branch chairperson of the Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) at the mine. MUN expressed concern that normal work activities resumed at the mine immediately following the tragic event, and asked that work in the area where Mwashindange collapsed be suspended. The union also wants fellow mineworkers who witnessed the death to be provided with counselling, trauma support and assistance, while calling that the area be secured, assessed and investigated.
