Who's your genie?
I'm sure we have all heard or read the Disney book on the genie that grants three wishes to people and this genie somehow got out of Disneyland and managed to fly to Namibia and it landed on your window and actually grants you three wishes. What would they be!? Would you wish to get a cum laude in your honours degree? Or would you want it to make you so filthy rich that you will never work a day in your life? Or would you want the genie to make you the best musician, actor, dancer of your generation? Or better yet, you don't need any wishes granted because you are comfortable with what you have and who you are? But we all know that there is no blue man in the form of smoke coming to grant you wishes, emerging from a lamp. Those where we come from at least, are in form of friends, mentors in our specific fields of interest. These people, if used well are here to help your wishes come true. Unfortunately many of us like shortcuts and just want a quick way to the top.
We also forget to be humble to the people who take the journey with us. Take for instance a fan who has always purchased an artist’s music, branded clothing and everything they else but they refuse to do the littlest thing for them like taking a picture at the mall or even just giving back to the community. Take for instance when asked to perform at a school event, the thousands of dollars charged are just ridiculous - I wonder how they even sleep. The reasons we hear are like, yes we make a living out of these events and we never know when the next gig will be. This is what you wished for remember? To be the best at what you do and now that you got it you can’t handle the heat. Petty much? The genie can’t be pushed back in the bottle at the end of the day.
Miss Lira once said one should learn to be happy with what they have at that time and take it slowly and one step at a time.
