People from the southern village of Maltahöhe will have a chance to witness the beautiful game with the Daweb General Dealer football tournament set for the weekend.
The football competition is expected to attract over 40 teams who have already made contact with the organisers, Steven Nanib and Inspector //Gowaseb.
Maltahöhe is a village in southern central Namibia close to the Swartrand escarpment, about 110 km west of Mariental in the Hardap Region.
The teams will battle in out for top places at the Daweb !Goas field.
Nanib, who is part of the organising committee, said that they came up with the plan to launch this tournament due to the lack of football activity in the area.
“This initiative is simply there to bring entertainment back in the settlement given that we have not had some entertainment for some time now.
“There is nothing better than giving people of the town the kind of entertainment which is universal and unites people and that is football,” Nanib said.
The total amount the teams are playing for is N$30 000, accompanied by trophies, medals and kit for those teams that reaches the final.
The winning team takes home N$15 000, a trophy and 20 gold medals, including a soccer kit they will be playing with in the final.
The team that loses in the final will be compensated with N$8 000, silver medals and the kit.
“We want to make this an annual tournament but that can only depend on the outcome of this one.
“All health protocols regarding the pandemic will be followed throughout the tournament.
“We invite interested teams to contact me at 0814059337 or inspector Gowaseb at 081 391 0337,” Nanib said.
The registration fee for the tournament is N$1 700.
