Substandard tins of corned beef Meatco is currently selling to the public may not be resold.
This was stressed in a statement by the company, which said it is selling a limited amount of these tins to staff, the public and farmers while stocks last.
The company explained that the product is called substandard because the Namibia Standards Institution (NSI), a regulatory body of Meatco, downgraded it due to dents in the tins.
“The product inside is still fit for human consumption. The conditions from NSI are that it can be used for own consumption within six months, but not for resale.”
Meatco further clarified that the product is not for government drought relief.
On 23 April, Meatco donated 25 000 tins of corned beef to the Khomas regional council for its coronavirus relief programme. This product was also not for resale.
Meatco urged the public and police to ensure consumers buying these products do not resell them, but use them for their own consumption only.
