Stay woke
There are so many things we are warned against doing but we pretend not to notice them, or just pray they don’t catch up with us. It can be anything, really.
Take for instance one not rolling out your dustbin out on a Monday morning. You won’t think it will affect you until that Thursday evening when you go out and see how the dogs have messed up the trash because it was overflowing. Another example is of an artist who doesn’t care about their performances and only keeps his eyes on the money he will make that night.
Yes, you get to enjoy your spending spree, might even go to the extreme of buying drinks for their so-called haters that night. Sometime later they start wondering why they never don’t get calls to perform at gigs anymore forgetting how they showed up at the previous gig. I know of an artist who believed they were actually bewitched because of the constant failures they were experiencing.
But darling it’s just a thing of how you don’t respect yourself or the people who took time and paid N$50 for a ticket to attend your show. When you see so and so doing better than you, it is because they know why they are in the business, and then you start spreading rumours and all that. It’s a shame really.
This is all hitting me after the death of Mandoza. His plea was people to go get checked out and test on anything, regardless of whatever it is. He also said it’s because you never know what bugs might be hiding in you.
I feel I can relate with that on so many levels. Mandoza was simply encouraging people to stay on top of their game to avoid all kinds and types of disappointments. Such phrases like, if I knew then what I know now things and life will be much easier or healthier.
Be it in your health, career or relationships; keep up with the trends and stay woke - as they now say. Avoid displeasure by all means. Take all warnings seriously and also don’t wake for warnings. Love yourself hard and take the initiative.
