Nujoma strikes conciliatory tone
Places focus on peace and nation building
Founding Father Sam Nujoma said the Swapo Party School’s philosophies must be geared towards nation-building, regardless of citizens’ political affiliations.
Nujoma, who this weekend delivered the inaugural public lecture at the school, said the institution must act as a catalyst for peace and harmony so that the government can focus on eradicating poverty, improving the lives of its citizens, as well as to fight ignorance.
“The message must be clear that all Namibians, regardless of their political orientation, have a responsibility to develop the country. Democracy is the battle of ideas, it is not and should not be the battle of throwing stones at each other,” he urged.
The Swapo Party School was officially opened by President Hage Geingob in May this year, who announced Nujoma as the patron of the school.
The school which is led by former Prime Minister Marco Hausiku, has been established to educate Swapo party members on leadership and to promote the party ideology and its political message.
Nujoma also explained that the main aim of any political school is to educate members and train them in the art and practice of politics, and to conduct research and produce scholarly works to guide the party to produce well-grounded cadres that are equipped to tackle the problems of the 21st century.
“Multiparty democracy is an important condition for peace and stability and without peace there can be no development. It must therefore be understood that political opponents are not political enemies,” he advised.
He also told members that the party school must serve as channels for spreading the message of tolerance and mutual co-existence so that Namibia can continue enjoy peace and stability.
“Through patriotism our people will be motivated to do their best in developing our country in the interest of all Namibians,” Nujoma
said.
