Mpumalanga Tour ends

BCX’s Clint Hendricks outsprinted his breakaway companions to win the sixth and final stage of the Mpumalanga Tour, which took place over 197 km from Badplaas to Loskopdam.

Hendricks, who also won the first stage, got the better of Luso AC/DC Dynamics’ Calvin Beneke and NAD Pro’s Gawie Combrinck in a six-man dash for the line.

ProTouch’s Myles van Musschenbroek, NAD Pro’s Matt Beers, BCX’s Steven van Heerden and Sampada’s Jan Montshioa and Thokozani Mahlangu broke away early on to build a sizeable lead by the time they reached the first King of the Mountains prime at the 25 km mark.

Van Musschenbroek outlasted his fellow escapees and was joined by BCX’s Brandon Downes and Hendricks, ProTouch’s Gustav Basson and Jayde Julius as well as Combrinck at the head of affairs. They were chased hard by Randwater-Transnet’s Shameeg Salie, Beneke and Beers.

Soon after they turned onto the N4 about 134 km in, Combrinck, Hendricks, Basson, Julius and Van Musschenbroek went up the road, with the three chasers joining them to leave eight riders at the front.

The leaders had an advantage of five minutes with 30 km to go with Hendricks eventually taking the spoils on the line.

Beers won the overall Mpumalanga Tour, as well as the KOM title.
