Man commits suicide after hacking wife with axe

ELLANIE SMITWINDHOEKA man committed suicide in the early morning hours of Saturday after he attempted to murder his wife by hacking her with an axe at the Omahahi village in the Epembe Constituency Region.According to the police the couple were drinking on Friday at cuca shops when the 48-year-old husband, Hesekiel Naftal, went home, leaving his wife behind.Neighbours later heard the wife screaming and found her outside their bedroom with severe head wounds.They also discovered the husband's body hanging from the roof inside the bedroom.There was a small axe and bloodstains on the floor. It is suspected that the husband had hacked his wife with the axe and then committed suicide.The wife was transported to Eenhana hospital in a critical condition and later transferred to the Oshakati hospital for further medical attention. Police investigations continue. Stabbing In a separate incident on Friday at the Onandjaba settlement in the Omusati Region, a 43-year-old man was arrested after he stabbed a man he had found in his room with his girlfriend.According to the police, when the suspect found the victim with his girlfriend, the victim ran away. However, the suspect chased him and stabbed him with an Okapi knife in the stomach. He was rushed to the Oshikuku Catholic Hospital and later transferred to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital in a stable condition. Attempted rape A 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at Outjo's Saamstaan location on Friday by a suspect who has not been arrested yet.It is alleged that the suspect dragged the victim into the bushes and pulled off her clothes while threatening her with a knife, but she managed to run away. Guard raped In another incident at Grootfontein, a 43-year-old woman who is employed as a security guard was assaulted and raped by an unknown man on Friday.The incident happened at the Grootfontein Secondary School, while she was on guard alone. It is alleged that the man raped, assaulted her and also stole her cellphone. According to the police she was only armed with a stick to defend herself.
