As part of the German embassy in Namibia's projects to help mitigate the effects of Covid-19, food parcels were handed out to 70 Mariental families.

As an immediate measure to purchase the donation, an amount of N$28 143 was set aside from the embassy's micro-project fund. The food packages, which included staple foods, were distributed to community members in Mariental by the Women's Missionary Society (WMS), an organisation of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The elderly and most vulnerable members of society are among the families chosen by the WMS.

The organisation usually serves its congregation through fundraising and donations. “Due to the severe impact of Covid-19, even more families were affected. The church group reached out to the embassy for assistance, and through this joint effort, the embassy is glad to be able to support this food distribution project in Mariental and its surrounding areas,” the embassy said.
