NCCAS recognition for Dr Lemmer

In a show of academic resilience and pedagogical excellence, Dr Lemmer High School has secured a place among the Top 10 schools in the latest Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary (NSSCAS) rankings.
This achievement marks a milestone for the institution and reflects a commitment to enhancing the quality of public education in Namibia.
As the country continues to adapt to the demands of the AS-level curriculum, Dr Lemmer has emerged as a model of what focused leadership and learner perseverance can achieve.
State schools across Namibia face persistent challenges, including a shortage of suitably qualified teachers. Despite these constraints, Dr Lemmer has consistently maintained high pass rates through good leadership, proactive planning, and strong institutional support. Principal Elwin Meintjies noted that, “the School Management Team and School Board ensure teaching posts are advertised well in advance and are filled promptly with qualified educators, with ongoing support from the regional office”.
As a result, the school currently has a fully qualified teaching staff across all subjects offered.
A culture of discipline and learner motivation remains central to the school’s sustained academic performance. Learners demonstrate commitment to their studies and actively participate in enrichment programmes. This positive learner attitude is reinforced by a dedicated teaching staff who regularly provide academic support beyond normal school hours. Targeted interventions by the regional office, including AS-level holiday schools, have further strengthened learner outcomes. In addition, the school sourced external expertise to offer weekend classes, which were well attended and contributed to improved results.
Rather than competing with private schools, Dr Lemmer focuses on maximising available resources. The school has three dedicated science laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. While these facilities may not match those of some private institutions, Meintjies said, “they are functional and sufficient for curriculum delivery, with subject-specific and practical materials provided timeously. Subject specialists were also invited to conduct practical training for both learners and teachers.”
