A match to remember

The Flip and Anna Izaacs rugby tournament is a platform where players from schools all over Rehoboth come together. They show their dedication, love, support and talent for rugby. The most exciting part of this event is that there's a floating trophy to be won, and that it happens annually. The trophy goes to the winning team each year.

The rugby tournament has always been that one event players and coaches look forward to. Flip and Anna Izaacs are very big supporters of rugby and two of their sons still play rugby today. The tournament was named after them to inspire and motivate players to leave a legacy.

Participants

This year's tournament took place on 11 March at Dr Lemmer sports grounds. Here, secondary and primary schools competed firstly for the Stanford Izaacs rugby trophy and secondly for the Terence Izaacs rugby trophy. The tournament saw Dr Lemmer, MK Gertze and Rehoboth high schools compete for the floating trophy.

MK Gertze's first team faced Dr Lemmer and Rehoboth High School went up against MK Gertze's second team. Players from each school gave their best on the field as none of them were willing to lose. This made the competition very tough and nerve-wracking. Spectators and coaches were eager to see which school would win, leaving an intense atmosphere. Players kept the crowd entertained and cheering at the top of their lungs.

Towards the end, the last moments were challenging for players and their coaches. "The match was nerve-wracking but an eye-opener to eliminate their mistakes,” said Arenso, a player from MK Gertze said.

Another player from MK Gertze, Alexander, said: "Although the match was tough, it made them determined to win. But at the end of the day, there could only be one winner. Rehoboth High School lost first, leaving Dr Lemmer and MK Gertze to win the tournament.”

Results

Dr Lemmer had a score of 16 and MK Gertze 26. The winners of the Flip and Anna Izaacs tournament were the under-16s from Dr Lemmer, under-19s A team from MK Gertze and the under-19 B team from MK Gertze. This made MK Gertze the overall winner of the 2023 Flip and Anna Izaacs rugby tournament.

I believe behind every fearless player is a fearless coach. It is vital to acknowledge the achievements of our brilliant players. They made the school, their parents and the community proud. The young talents who made an immense contribution to our school and society are also noteworthy.
