Over 370 000 social grant beneficiaries

Social welfare minister Doreen Sioka says government has provided social grants to 373 017 orphans and vulnerable children, who are currently on the grant system as of 31 March.
According to her, a sum of N$ 1.7 billion is allocated childcare and protection for the 2024/25 financial year to cover food rations for the Namibia Children's Home and after-school centres, and personnel expenditure, among other things.
“The primary purpose of this programme is to improve care and protection for the well-being of children. In 2023/2024, social workers in the ministry attended to 1 753 children who experienced violence and abuse. A total of 18 victims were accommodated at shelters during the period from April to December 2023,” Sioka said.
