SHORT - Namibia spends over N$176m in renewable energy
The director of energy funds in the mines ministry, Anna Shigwedha, said Namibia has invested over N$176 million through its Solar Revolving Fund (SRF) to support rural electrification efforts across Namibia.
Speaking at the 8th Annual Zambezi Bream Festival and Cultural Expo held in Katima Mulilo this week, Shigwedha revealed that the fund has financed 5 709 renewable energy technologies and 93 grid connections to date, directly benefiting civil servants, farmers, pensioners, and entrepreneurs.
The SRF offers subsidised loans for solar home systems, water heaters, photovoltaic pumps, and other technologies aimed at increasing Namibia’s national electrification rate to 70%.
The mnistry’s participation in the expo reflects its broader strategy to make government services more accessible in remote and underserved regions such as Zambezi.
