Roaming livestock worries Oshakati
News in short
Despite efforts to impound livestock roaming the streets, the Oshakati Town Council is still facing an uphill battle with farmers who do not control their animals.
According to spokesperson Katarina Kamari, the council has increased the size of its impound facility and hired more casual employees. She said during the rainy season, there is a lot of grazing available, but during the dry season, livestock grazing within town boundaries becomes a challenge.
At the impound facility, livestock are fed by casual workers and farmers are fined per head when collecting their animals.
Kamari urged farmers to keep their livestock out of town boundaries as they create traffic congestion and do not paint a good image of the town.
