JUST IN: Swakop residents urged to use water sparingly
The municipality of Swakopmund earlier today urged residents, the business community and interested stakeholders to use water sparingly to avoid shortages.
According to the municipality, NamWater's potable water production and supply capacity is under severe pressure at its two main sources, the Omdel borehole scheme and the Orano desalination plant.
The municipality explained that operations at the Orano desalination plant has been receiving and experiencing an overload of sulphur outbreaks. This has significantly affected the potable water supply to the NamWater base reservoir in Swakopmund.
NamWater is currently rehabilitating crucial electricity infrastructure and are replacing pumping equipment at the Omdel borehole scheme to ensure the required satisfactory production capacity.
