Grootfontein pays N$3m for Sinvula to walk away

Kisco Sinvula is no longer the CEO of the Grootfontein municipality, after the local authority paid him a N$2.97 million settlement fee.

This was confirmed by Grootfontein mayor Talitha Garises, who yesterday told Namibian Sun that Sinvula received his exit package from the local authority.

“He is no longer with us. I understand he received his money about two weeks ago,” she said.

“I signed the settlement agreement and he signed as well, which saw the line ministry also approving the agreement and allowing us to pay him out. We paid every last cent that was due to him.”

Sinvula has been a controversial figure at the municipality, where he regularly clashed with employees and councillors.

The former CEO’s last fight saw an employee having to seek medical treatment after he was left with a bruised mouth from a punch.

Toxic

According to Garises, council has resolved to appoint Indileni Lungameni as the acting CEO until December.

Meanwhile, they will soon commence the process of finding a substantive accounting officer for the local authority, she said.

Council terminated Sinvula’s contract on 24 May as a result of the disintegration of the relationship between the two parties.

Of the council’s 70 employees, 50 voted in favour of Sinvula’s removal from office in a recent petition.

Two months ago, the former CEO resumed work after serving a 14-month suspension.

He resumed duty after the High Court ruled that his suspension was illegal.

Despite the ruling, council decided that as the relationship between the parties had become toxic, it would terminate Sinvula’s contract with immediate effect.
