Second accused gets bail in San child abuse case
A 27-year-old man accused alongside British national Douglas Robert Brook in a case involving the alleged sexual exploitation of minors and the taking of nude photographs has been granted bail by the Grootfontein Magistrate's Court.
Alouis !Ui N#amce was granted bail of N$2 000 on Friday by magistrate Bornface Konga after the State conceded to his release under specific conditions.
N#amce, who was represented by lawyer Murray Shikongo, faces charges including child exploitation, indecent assault and offences under the Child Care and Protection Act in connection with allegations involving children from the San community.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Conditional release
Brook, a 65-year-old British national, remains in custody. He faces 39 charges, including rape, indecent assault, child exploitation and human trafficking-related offences.
Brook was arrested in May 2025 after police alleged that he targeted children from the San community in the Otjozondjupa region, luring them with sweets and money before taking nude photographs of them. Police previously said some of the photographs were found on his camera after it was confiscated.
During Friday's proceedings, prosecutor Sofia Tenga said the State did not oppose bail, provided N#amce does not contact witnesses, leaves the Grashoek area after paying bail, relocates to Tsumkwe and reports to the police every Friday.
The matter was postponed to 1 September for the prosecutor general’s decision.
