Neckartal ESIA underway

The agriculture and water ministry has announced plans for the proposed Neckartal Irrigation Phase 2 Project in the //Kharas region, with an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) to be undertaken as part of the approval process.

The project is planned for undeveloped state-owned farms surrounding the Neckartal Dam in the Schlangkopf area, west of the B4 highway between Lüderitz and Keetmanshoop and approximately 10 km east of the Fish River Canyon. The development covers an area of about 19 000 hectares.

Tortoise Environmental Consultants have been appointed as independent environmental practitioners, while Sustainable Development Africa will serve as independent socio-economic practitioners.
