The health ministry has announced that 779 lives were lost to suicide in Namibia between January 2021 and July 2022. Thirty of these suicides involved young Namibians.
"These statistics serve as a sombre reminder of the far-reaching consequences of this crisis, affecting families, communities, and the nation as a whole," Jeremia Ngipundjwa, deputy executive director for the health and social services ministry, said at the launch of the Lifeline International Africa Region member forum this morning. The forum is currently underway at Lifeline/Childline Namibia in Windhoek. This is the first time the forum is taking place in Namibia.
