A Walvis Bay woman is suing the health ministry for N$3 million, alleging medical negligence after a breast reduction operation at Walvis Bay State Hospital left her permanently disfigured.

The woman, who cannot be named for privacy reasons, filed the lawsuit in October 2025. The procedure, performed in October 2024, reportedly led to severe complications, including chronic pain, infections, seizures and permanent disfigurement.

The lawsuit alleges that hospital staff failed to properly diagnose her condition, perform the surgery with due care or refer her to a specialist after complications arose. The ministry has yet to file its plea.
