Walvis Bay mayor Trevino Forbes outlined key service delivery updates and upcoming developments in the town during the town council's recent monthly meeting.

On road maintenance, Forbes highlighted the municipality’s ongoing efforts to repair potholes across all suburbs to improve road safety and travel comfort.

“Repair teams are prioritising high-traffic areas, and we urge residents to report new potholes or safety concerns through official channels. Your patience during these repairs is appreciated as we work to restore smooth, safe roads for all,” he said.

The mayor also confirmed the delivery of five new refuse-removal trucks last week. According to Forbes, the vehicles will “significantly reduce delays in emptying refuse bins and improve service reliability for households and businesses.” He encouraged residents to continue placing bins out as scheduled and to report missed collections for quick follow-up.

Housing needs being addressed

Housing was another focus of the council meeting. Forbes acknowledged progress on the Farm 37 Housing Project, describing it as “a major milestone in addressing housing needs and delivering quality, affordable homes for residents.” He encouraged eligible residents to apply for Build Together housing initiatives and prepare the necessary documents in advance.

In addition, erven in Narraville and Meersig will soon be made available for housing and investment opportunities. “Additional information on location, lot sizes, prices and application procedures will be communicated through official channels as soon as plans are finalised,” Forbes announced.

Celebrations

Furthermore, he invited the community to participate in the Walvis Bay Maritime Festival, set for 8 to 13 September, at the Walvis Bay Civic Centre. The festival is being organised in partnership with Namport, De Beers Marine and Namibia Fish Consumption.

“This year, we are proud to align our event with the theme of World Maritime Day: ‘Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity,’” Forbes said.

The programme will include youth debates hosted by Namport, a maritime careers Edu Corner by Debmarine, and a fish cooking competition under the stewardship of Namibia Fish Consumption.
