Environmental awareness campaign kicks off

Ellanie Smit
The environment and tourism ministry has launched a festive season environmental awareness campaign, taking place from 8 to 23 December in the Kavango East, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Kunene and Erongo regions.

The initiative follows the official launch of a national clean-up campaign at Nkurenkuru, Kavango West, in September.

The ministry and its partners aim to intensify public education on keeping Namibia clean during the festive season and beyond.

The campaign will use the high-travel period to raise awareness at selected traffic checkpoints and in nearby communities.

Holidaymakers will be encouraged to adopt sustainable waste management practices that support the circular economy of reducing, reusing, recycling and rethinking waste to ensure cleaner and healthier ecosystems.

The campaign seeks to promote a culture of responsible waste disposal to curb illegal dumping and promote environmental cleanliness.

Activities in each region will be led by regional governors, regional police leadership, youth leaders and other key stakeholders.
