Unlicenced driver kills pedestrian in Mondesa
News in short
A 23-year-old unlicenced man was arrested at Swakopmund on Sunday after losing control of the car he was driving and hitting two pedestrians.
It is alleged that while overtaking another car in Mondesa, the man lost control of the vehicle and hit the pedestrians. The car then veered off the road and crashed into a shack.
One of the pedestrians, Jeptha Kandhingwa (51), succumbed to his injuries. The other, Johannes Shangambe (27), sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised.
Head of community policing in the Erongo Region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the incident, which took place at around 14:50. He said the suspect was allegedly sent by his boss to deliver a white Mercedes Benz to its owner after repairs.
The suspect was arrested and his boss, a garage owner, was charged for authorising an unlicenced person to operate a motor vehicle.
Police investigations continue.
