Unknown woman killed in suspected hit-and-run

A woman believed to be between 25 and 30 years old was found dead in Oshuushe village on the Ondangwa-Oshikango B1 road in the early hours of Friday morning in what police suspect was a fatal hit-and-run accident.

According to Namibian Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the victim's body was discovered in Oshuushe village at around 02:00.

The woman, who was wearing a black jacket, white T-shirt, black jeans and black sandals, has not yet been identified. Police investigations are ongoing.

The case forms part of a busy weekend for law enforcement, with police recording several fatal crashes, violent crimes, stock theft cases and fraud incidents across the country between 12 and 14 June.

In Swakopmund, a 32-year-old man was arrested after fleeing the scene of an accident.

He allegedly struck two boys, aged 13 and 14, with a Nissan Navara in Tamariskia.

The children sustained minor to serious injuries and were taken to Cottage Private Hospital.

Another alleged hit-and-run was reported in Mondesa shortly after midnight on Saturday when a 27-year-old pedestrian was struck by a white hatchback near Oasis Bar and Mondesa Clinic. The driver allegedly failed to stop and left the scene. The victim was hospitalised and remains in a stable condition.

Fatalities and theft

Road crashes also claimed lives elsewhere.

Near Grootfontein, 18-year-old Urab Kalbas and an adult woman, Emma Somses, died after a Mahindra pickup overturned on Farm Sherwood on Saturday evening. Police said the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle while travelling with five adults and two children.

In Walvis Bay, 46-year-old motorcyclist Justin Edwin Jenkins died after allegedly losing control of his motorcycle while overtaking and colliding with a Hyundai truck on the B2 road near the Kuisebmund turn-off.

Police are also investigating a rape case reported at Onamulunga in the Onethindi area, where an 18-year-old woman was allegedly raped during the early hours of Sunday morning. The suspect has been identified but has not been arrested by the time of reporting.

Other cases recorded over the weekend include stock theft in Oshikoto and Ovitoto, a housebreaking in Henties Bay where property worth N$286 400 was stolen, and two separate fraud cases in Windhoek and Kavango West involving losses of more than N$110 000 combined. Investigations into all matters remain ongoing.
