Man’s ears slashed with panga during fight
News in short
A 33-year-old man recently survived an attack during which both his ears were slashed with a panga.
The incident took place at a bar in Ondangwa's Uupopo informal settlement after a fight broke out between the victim and another man. He allegedly found a man being escorted to his girlfriend's room by a security guard.
Chief inspector Thomas Aiyambo from the Oshana community policing subdivision confirmed the incident, adding that the victim reportedly decided to stay the night at his girlfriend's room at her workplace, Moon Walk Bar.
When he got there, he found the other man entering the room with the security guard, who was on night shift at the bar.
“A fight erupted. After they were separated, the suspect [the 43-year-old security guard] disappeared and then came back with a panga,” he said.
The guard used the panga to attack the victim, inflicting wounds to both his ears in the process. His right ear was almost completely slashed off, while the left was slightly wounded, Aiyambo said. The victim also sustained injuries to his right arm.
The guard also sustained injuries during the altercation when the victim fought back, allegedly stabbing him with an unknown object.
The men were taken to the Onandjokwe hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.
No arrests have yet been made, but the guard could face a charge of attempted murder, while the victim could face a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Police investigations continue.
